The incident occurred on March 16, 2004. It was caught on camera because the NYPD had 200 CCTV cameras in the Morris Houses housing projects in the Bronx as part of their Video Interactive Patrol Enhances Response (VIPER) program.
Paris Lane was a budding hip-hop artist who went by the stage name Para Dice.

He was 22 years old.
The girl in the video, Krysten Simmons, was 16 at the time. She suffered a nervous breakdown after seeing the video and filed a $10 million notice of claim against the city for its leak.
