The most exciting thing for me about urban/rural exploring is the unknown: are there people inside, how many raccoons, is the dwelling stable, will I make it out, will I get caught, might these be that last photos ever to be taken of the place, the history of the location.

This next location was set off to one side of a highway. No neighbours on either side but neighbours across the road (it's a small 2-lane highway).

The small house was obviously abandoned and was situated about 500 or 600 feet away from the only place that I could park on the side of the highway. That's not always good when you have to go out in the open and walk through knee-high grass and bushes without someone calling the RCMP.

Plus, I had had way of knowing if their was a POE (point of entry).

But I made it to the crumbling house, started taking photos, and soon found a POE at the back of the house.

I hate spiders and huge spider webs and getting into this doorway under a collapsed back awning is where I met the first of several. I almost thought, "Fuck it."

The stairs were stable and the second floor opened up to two bedrooms.

Going to the first bedroom I encountered a second monster fricking spider it it's web. I had picked up the leg of a table or chair earlier and quickly pushed it away...

One strange and perhaps unsettling thing about some of these places is that it appears as though whoever lived there just up and went.

But I did manage to get through this house and make it back to my truck.

I'll be back in Scoudouc in about a month and although the front portion of the place has collapsed I'll be returning.

Location: Wexford Town, Co. Wexford, Ireland. My hometown.

I grew up in the shadow of this building. It's known as "the old hospital", and it did in fact for a long time operate as the main hospital for the entire county of Wexford. My parents were born here, me and all but one of my 4 siblings too. It was closed as a hospital in the early 90's. However, this building was not originally built as a hospital. It's was built during the great famine of 1847-1890 and served as a workhouse where people basically went to die. The exact figures of how many died here are not known, but its known to be in the thousands. Also, the area where the bodies of the dead were buried is unknown. The housing estate I grew up in was built directly below it in what was a walnut forest at the time of the famine. 20180415_230005.jpg 20180415_230023.jpg 20180415_230043.jpg 20180415_230107.jpg

Wow. That would be wicked to get into. Who knows what's inside. Have you been able to get into it?

Ya we got into it as kids bro. Found all sorts of stuff, medical stuff, old church docutments, and even large containers of mercury. We all got very sick though and never went back in.

Ya, a place like that would definitely require a good respirator mask. Sometimes I wear a basic one in some places but mostly to fend off black mold and dust.

I'd love to go to the old country again (Scotland) because I passed by so many abandoned buildings and I'm sure that Ireland has it's fair share of them too. Russia, Germany, Belgium, etc would also be great places for old buildings like this.

In Canada we don't have as much: younger country. Most building are demolished fairly quickly here so one day it's there and next day it's gone.
