    Here, there and everywhere!
Amidst the incessant US bombings of Japan during World War II, this young Japanese boy stands at attention after bringing his dead younger brother to a funeral pyre for cremation.

At the conclusion of World War II, this German soldier returned to his home only to find that his wife and children, who had sustained him throughout the long war, had been killed. He collapsed with grief on the spot.

During the German Blitz n World War II vast swathes of London were destroyed. In the rubble of the aerial bombings a lone girl clutches her doll for a brief moment of comfort.

The owner of Leao, the dog in the photo, was killed in the massive landslides that occurred near Rio de Janeiro in 2011. Leao sat next to her owner’s grave for two straight days, hoping in vain that she would return.

After World War II, this young Holocaust survivor was asked to draw a picture of home. The resulting drawing can only hint at the barbarity this child endured.

This polar bear at a zoo stares at a painting of his natural habitat. Sadly, this is as close as he’ll ever get to his natural home. Soooo fucking sad.:(

Poison gas was used widely in World War I. This picture shows two German soldiers and their mule wearing gas masks to protect themselves.

In October 2009 Diego Frazao Torquato weeps while playing the violin at the funeral for his teacher, a man who who had given Diego hope to escape the favelas of Brazil by mastering an instrument. The teacher, John Evandro da Silva, had been murdered on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Sadly Diego died from cancer 1 year later.

In this moving photo a girl hugs her sister for more than an hour after she returned from the hospital following a suicide attempt. Hard to imagine a photo that speaks more strongly to the power of a loving family.

The division of Korea into North Korea and South Korea following the second World War can seem like a far-off historical event, but as this photo shows it had very personal consequences. In this photo an elderly South Korean man parts ways with his North Korean relative due to the political divide.

Ventriloquism was huge back in the day – seems like every act had one. But some of those dummies are downright scary!

This boy’s father died while serving in the military in Iraq. More than five thousand Americans have lost their lives in the Iraq conflict. Poor sweet little guy, my heart breaks for him. :(
